Four women. A seemingly impossible distance. And perhaps the most important decision of their lives. Tanja, Bianca and Aynur aren’t extreme athletes – they’re women in the thick of life who carve out a little time for themselves at the swimming pool every morning. Amidst relationship crises, the unfulfilled desire to have children and the physical challenges of the menopause, the water is the only place where everything still stands still, if only for a moment.
The well-established group of early-morning swimmers meets Sophie: a woman training for a goal that is greater than anything that still holds her together. She wants to swim across the Fehmarn Belt – for her late husband and her son. When Sophie is forced to give up for health reasons, the three friends face a decision that is as absurd as it is resolute: they will take on her dream.
Whilst the training pushes them to their limits, their lives on land are also being turned upside down: relationships are falling apart, life plans are crumbling, and truths can no longer be ignored. And with every kilometre, it becomes clearer that they can only reach this goal if they change themselves.
