Fear

BROADCAST ON ZDF IN 2024

When Inspector Martin Brühl wakes up to find that his partner Susanne Koch is not beside him in bed, he immediately knows that something is wrong. What no one knows is that Susanne witnessed a crime on her way home that night, and was badly injured when an ATM was blown up and whisked away by the perpetrators. Martin is able to convince his superior Mattuschek that Susanne’s disappearance is linked to a crime, but is taken off the case due to his distress and closeness to the victim. He investigates anyway and learns that Susanne had gone on a secret date with a former classmate, with whom she was previously involved in a toxic relationship and who had recently reconnected with her. Martin is convinced he has found the person responsible for Susanne’s sudden disappearance. But when the team led by Eli Wiesner and Frauke Buhr are able to establish a connection between Susanne’s disappearance and a series of professionally organized ATM blasts, Martin has a terrible suspicion that seems to be confirmed shortly afterwards: Susanne was to be eliminated as an unwanted witness. He has no idea that one of the perpetrators, tormented by moral conflicts, only faked Susanne’s execution and is nursing her back to health in his own house near the Polish border. But the pressure on the unnerved kidnapper to get rid of Susanne for good is growing from two sides: not only are the investigators on his trail, his own unscrupulous backers have also begun to suspect that the witness is still alive and could therefore be dangerous to them...
